About the Course

This course introduces the basics of colour theory, colour psychology, and painting practices for interior and building applications. It covers colour principles, psychological effects of colours, their use in residential and non-residential interiors, fundamentals of paints, and standard painting methodologies. The course equips students with essential knowledge to apply colours and paints effectively for functional, aesthetic, and sustainable design outcomes.

Introduction – visible spectrum, colour temperature - Color wheel showing primary, secondary & tertiary colours – Properties of colours - classification of colors with different hues, values, and shades.

MODULE:2Psychological Properties of Colors

Meaning of colours - significance of colour in the interiors - Psychology of colour.

MODULE:3Applications of Colours

Use of colour in various functional contexts Residential interiors-living room, bed room, children’s room, kitchen, bathroom - Non-Residential interiors- hotels and motels, restaurants, showrooms, retail outlets, school and colleges, health care facilities.

MODULE:4Introduction to Paints

.Definition of Paint, properties of paints, purpose of paints, components of paints, Types of paint, VOC paints & its importance.

MODULE:5Work Methodology for Painting Works

Painting Internal & External Plastered Surface, Painting over Wood Surface, Painting over Metal Surface, advantages and disadvantages on building painting.
